It won’t take long for Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary coach Pete Smolin to get a line on the talent available for his program for the next several seasons. Smolin, who doubles as the school’s athletic director, has put together an awesome schedule this season for his freshman football team. The Heralds open at home against Redlands (yikes!), then travel to take on Valencia West Ranch and Rosemead. Chaminade is next, thankfully at home, but then they take the road against for Oaks Christian (yikes again!!), Don Bosco Tech and San Marino. For the stretch drive, they’ll be at home against Burbank John Burroughs, Loyola (double yikes!!!) and Oak Park (whew). The team was 8-2 last season, the only losses coming against Long Beach Poly and Oak Park, and the overall success may have contributed to Smolin’s ambitious approach to building this year’s list of opponents.
