Jose Mourinho insists Manchester United ‘deserved’ win over Crystal Palace

first_imgJose Mourinho felt Manchester United fully deserved to beat Crystal Palace on Wednesday night, despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 88th minute winner being all that separated the sides.Paul Pogba’s opener was cancelled out by a well-worked team goal converted by James McArthur, and it appeared Palace had done enough to secure a much-needed point. But United, who dominated possession and recorded 10 more shots than their opponents, did enough to break the Eagles’ resistance and keep pace with the Premier League top five. And Mourinho has no doubt his team deserved their three points, as they controlled the majority of the game.“We deserve, we were the best team,” he said. “They had a little reaction and they scored the goal in that period, then we had the best period in the game.“In the first half we had control but in the last 20 minutes we were super dominant, we created a lot and we won in the end fairly deservedly.”Mourinho also believes sixth-placed United are playing well enough to be challenging the teams at the top.He added: “We are doing enough for that (to be in the top six). If we had the points we lost at home with draws in matches that we did more than enough to win we would be close to the top of the league.“But we lost these points and in this moment we are just closing the gap to the top four positions, so let’s try.“There are three more matches until the end of the year and let’s see how it ends on December 31 and we can feel then and smell what is possible to do in the second part of the season.”last_img
